Morning Madness

I’d like to think I’m not generally prone to sweeping generalisations and for every group of people I rail against, I acknowledge there’re always a few in said group who buck the trend and aren’t as much of arses as the rest. That being said, I feel the need for a little rant now – Cab drivers. ARGH!

So, as the story begins, it was a dark and rainy morning. I popped out and, as is the case on more mornings than I like, try to hail a cab to take me to work. Now, at that time of the morning, I usually just need to step out and there are quite a few cabs aplenty. And that was pretty much the case here.

BUT.

The first red cab that stopped said he wasn’t going to Balestier. Right behind him was ANOTHER red cab who, gasp, wasn’t going to Balestier either! I’m sorry, maybe I’m a bit naïve but I was under the impression that the customer decides where he wants to go, not the driver. Otherwise why not just have taxi stands with huge signs declaring something like:

“These taxis go to Jurong only. For passengers going to Orchard, walk 2km due east to the next taxi stand”

And as if that wasn’t bad enough, shortly after that a blue cab zoomed past with its “Hired” light turned on but….oh, horror of horrors, no passenger was in the cab! I’m quite sure the seventh month is over.

Look, just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you have to get all opportunistic and cruise around waiting for someone to make a phone booking.

Urgh.
