Mobile Madness

Ericsson T10i
I’m sad to say his name currently eludes me, but I remember it was something campy and alluding to his “ah-beng yerrow” colour. First bought when I was in BMT for convenience and emergency situations (have you ever seen the lines at the public phone in BMT? And bear in mind, this was before every kid had his own mobile phone. Pagers were still the norm then). And yes, I chose the colour myself.
Ericsson T28i
I can still remember the commercial for this one, with the stranded driver and aliens. Advertising does work. Bought him with my dad at Arrow Communications (shop was an army mate’s recommendation). Phone subsequently died within days if not hours and he spent at least the next 6 months going in and out of various service centres. Every time I got him back, he died within days. Eventually had to send him to the main importer thingy place in the middle of nowhere and….he finally worked. Not sure if he was replaced but he served me very well for a very long time. Still my all-time fav. Fits anywhere, great for carrying in No. 4 uniforms, works brilliantly anywhere. I’d still use it today if I can find one in good working condition.
Oh, and this is also the reason why I insist on buying all my phones only from Singtel Hello! shops (with the exception of the J100, which was a temp phone).
SonyEricsson T68i
Bluey. He has….suffered a lot at my hands. Served me well through the years (although nowhere near as long as the T28i) until SMS-ing with him became slightly less tedious than performing major surgery with a rusty and blunt thumbtack. His firmware is quite wonky now and, if he were a person, he’d most likely be in Arkham Asylum now.
SonyEricsson P910i
Patok. Ah, sweet Patok. My first and to date only Smartphone. Still going strong, although he’s starting to show signs of dementia and senility. Might have to join Bluey soon…..*sniff*
SonyEricsson J100i
A temp phone I bought for my reservist stint last year. Camp was a bit strict on their no-cameraphones policy. Currently adopted by my mom, but I still get visiting rights when I need to pop back into camp.
MOTORIZR Z8
Not a phone I have now, but I will! Eyeing this little sucker and just waiting for him to be released. And yes, it’s not an Ericsson / SonyEricsson. I’d love to perpetuate my love affair with Ericsson, but unfortunately I feel it’s becoming a one-sided relationship. I promised to use their phones and they, in exchange, live up to their policy of creating phones that combine the best of technology (from Ericsson daddy) and design (Sony mommy). And from what I’ve seen from their last dozen or so models, they’ve failed. Miserably. Sigh. Oh, well…..
